Influence of computer feedback on attentional biases to emotional faces in children

We examined which type of corrective feedback in a computerized task produces an optimal balance between performance and emotional reactions in children. To that end, we conducted an emotional dot-probe task. We employed three types of corrective feedback (negative, positive, or mixed) along with a control, non-feedback condition. We tested the effect of feedback on: (i) task performance; (ii) immediate emotional reactions in terms of attentional preferences toward emotional faces (happy, sad, and angry); and (iii) self-reported affective experience after the task. The present study analyzed family climate and parent–adolescent communication in the four roles involved in cyberbullying: cybervictims, cyberbullies, cyberbully–victims, and non–involved adolescents. Emoticons seem to enrich computer-mediated communication by improving enjoyment, perceived richness and usefulness of information (Huang, Yen, & Zhang, 2008). Despite their extensive use over the last decades, the way emoticons affect subsequent emotional/cognitive processing is not fully understood. Here we conducted a masked priming experiment that explored the time course of the masked affective priming effect while recording event-related potentials. Abstract The notion of an indirect speech act is at the very heart of cognitive pragmatics, yet, after nearly 50 years of orthodox (Searlean) speech act theory, it remains largely unclear how this notion can be explicated in a proper way. The article discusses how European painting heavily influenced two American Beat painters in the post war years. Post-war American painting was often concerned with breaking away from traditional iconography and style, but Jay DeFeo and Joan Brown chose to engage with European traditional painting. Both artists travelled to Europe early in their careers and both declare an intense interest in European painters, paintings, and architecture. In Brown’s case particularly the works of Goya, Velazquez, and Rembrandt become scrutinized and remodeled in her pasty abstract style. Dialogical Management of Morality in Domestic Violence Counselling

Moral issues have rarely been an explicit topic when family violence has been discussed in psychological literature. This article contributes to this topic through a detailed analysis of the transcripts of a counselling session on domestic violence, with special emphasis placed on how complex issues of morality are dialogically managed by the participants. It is shown that the morality of counselling is not explicit, but is constructed by various cautious and indirect conversational devices. In everyday interaction, subtle manifestations of sexism often pass unacknowledged and become internalised and thus perceived as “natural” conduct. The introduction of new vocabularies for referring to previously unnamed sexist conduct would presumably enable individuals to start problematising hitherto unchallengeable sexism.
